The Perfect Movie

War Of The Worlds (1953)

Obviously the movie impacted me as a kid, but I just love everything about this flick.
The movie still holds up after 68 years.
Dunno how many times I’ve watched it. Watching it tonight on kanopy.

The Green Mile
Casino
A Bronx Tale
Goodfellas
The Blues Brothers
The Last Waltz
Castaway
The Shawshank Redemption
Die Hard 1,2 and 3
Gone With The Wind
Wizard of Oz
Contact
Law Abiding Citizen (best revenge scene of a father getting full revenge on his 3 YO daughter's rapist/killer EVER!)

The Fountain(2006) Directed by Darren Aronofsky. With Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz.

The great visuals are well accompanied by Clint Mansell's Score.

I like the way it unseats the viewer as it drops into sections where we cant really tell if we are watching the female protagonist's book being illustrated or if we are off in the far future(open to interpretation). I think it plays well for those who understand grief, fear and love.

I can also nominate a movie called 'AngelA'(2005)...you chose how you would pronounce that...I have seen it as Angel-A and AngelA. Directed by Luc Besson with Rie Rasmussen and Jamel Debbouze.

Its a fantastical love story without slapping you in the face with it. I suggest watching it without exploring the plot or theme first.

..and I can never talk about visual art without a shout-out to Jess Cope...while she is not well established in feature films, she should be. Have a look at Steven Wilson's 'The Raven That Refused To Sing', 'Drive Home', 'Routine' and 'Unborn Song'. She is brilliant!

No Guy Ritchie fans, interesting.
Snatch and Revolver were entertaining flicks.
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood was incredible. The performances Tarantino gets from Brad and Leo are worth the view.
The Blues Brothers is a personal favorite.
Most recently, I sat through the Snyder cut of Justice League. That, was the movie I wanted to see.
I've tried revisiting favs of my youth, and they're all awful.

I loved “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”…some of the funniest dark humour I’ve ever seen! :) (y)

For anyone that says Godfather is perfect needs to 1) Look at Sonny's horrible choreography fight scene and wonder why a director would pick an angle to accentuate air punching phoniness and 2) Take a hard look at Sofia Coppola's acting and see how nepotism drove the series off a cliff. That said, I still watch the movies whenever they are on....but way overrated.

Coen Bros. have so many that I like from Big Lebowski to No Country...notable are Miller's Crossing, Fargo and Raising Arizona

Anything Wed Anderson - but if I had to pick one, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

I like Star Wars 1-6, I can swallow this series much better after watch Disney's abomination. Not perfect but epic and SW nerd for life

American Beauty

Karate Kid - loved it as a kid and found new depth as an adult. Cobra Kai series is great, no mercy!

Kubrick - If I have to pick may CWO or The Shining

Lars von Trier is an amazing director. I've seen Nymphomaniac, Antichrist and The House That Jack Built - my favorite recent movies

Miyazaki - Studio Ghibli stuff is great and his dedication to the art form

Tarantino - I like all his work but not a fan of any historical fiction stuff

Indie-esq films like Sideways, Eagle vs Shark or Napoleon Dynamite

Boogie Nights - actually much of what Philip Seymour Hoffman has done has been great (Scent of a Woman, The Master, The Savages...)

Jake Nicholson - already mention The Shining...but The Departed, About Schmitt, A Few Good Men, One Flew Over the Cuckcoo's Nest, Easy Rider, Batman, As Good as it Gets...

Darren Aronofsky - Pi, Reqium for Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan

Spielberg can get too political but makes great movies, so I'll just say Indiana Jones as old favorite.

Zombieland

This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show

Christopher Nolan's Batman series. I liked Joker but it didn't showcase his intelligence enough, just insanity.

My Cousin Vinny, Parenthood, Big Year (Steve Martin in general), Interview with a Vampire

American Psycho

Willem Dafoe can do anything, he is great along with Nicole Kidman and Kathy Bates

Tim Burton

I've got more, mostly Japanese movies....plus I like horror.

Owning Mahoney. If you haven't seen it, check it out. Great work by the late Mr. Hoffman. Liked him in Talented Mr. Ripley as well. He was a great talent.
Another fanboy movie would be Moon. Sam Rockwell is underrated.

"It insists upon itself." 😁

Any votes for Inception yet?

A Christopher Nolan masterpiece. Hans Zimmer's soundtrack is gloriously apocalyptic and a must-have for any soundtrack aficionado.
