Copper Hoops

One more note from me:
Copper (coatings) is/are usually covered with clear lacquer. If this clear coat is damaged, it can lead to ugly corrosion.
I would not recommend copper hardware for continuous playing.

Here some pics from a used Sonor Signature snare with copper hardware (copper-plated steel lugs & hoops):

However, if you don't care about the look, it shouldn't matter much.

I'm surprised they don't turn green like the Statue of Liberty.

What's under the copper plating? I keep thinking nickel but I'm not sure.

If it was actually copper all the way through, I think they would patina, instead of just chipping like that. I like the patina look, once it’s got a good patina, then it won’t change. You don’t have to protect it so much from every little scratch.

That can be!
Sonor has triple galvanized their hardware.
There may have been Nickel one layer.

Galvanized, if I'm not mistaken, is all about the zinc. Like metal fence posts. Maybe that's zinc under the copper. Maybe both zinc and nickel. My guess would be zinc first, then nickel, then copper. Guessing.
