In a covers band you expect the guitarist to adopt a tone suitable for the song, the same for the keys and bass.... shouldn't drummers...

From what you've said, I think the best head for you is an SM57.

I used to use that, and it was extremely durable and sounded pretty good. I think I got 53 shows out of it before it became useless...
