What I know about the man could be written on the back of a postage stamp, apart from the fact that he was a fine lyricst and singer, a deep thinker and a funky guy.

I bought the vinyl of his album Bridges decades ago on the recommendation of a friend. I'd forgotten about his existence for a long time until today when I heard on the radio that he just died and I felt saddened because Bridges was one of my favourite albums to play along with.

RIP Gil.

Here are a couple of my fave tracks on the album:

Vildgolia (Deaf, Dumb and Blind): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpz1dY5bi7g

Delta Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8ORbZg5YaI

We Almost Lost Detriot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDC_ZM48S0Y

The revolution has, and is, bein' televised now, Gil ..... RIP.....

...

'The Bottle' was all over WRVR NYC in the early 80's. WIll never forget a cold, wet & sleety January, 1980 when I made friends with this song.

RIP, activist/poet/singer/songwriter GS Heron.

Say no to drugs, folks. They get the best of us.

R.I.P. He had some nice funky tunes, and of course "Revolution will not be televised. True poet.

We sometimes encore with this one, never really works, but musically very satisfying and a great number.

The only thing that leaves me confused with him is the homophobia issue. Still, a big loss.
