"Best" is multidimensional and subjective. For example, how important to you is looks? Are looks more important than how they sound? For some, how the drum looks is critical. Take the gold Ludwig Triumphal snare at a MSR for around $11,000. Some have said it looks great, but its sound is not on par with how great it looks. Others might consider collectability and sound qualities in their argument for best. An anniversary snare drum with number 1 out of 20 from a famous drum company might be their vote for best. Others might vote for a particular drum as being best because it is the brand used they by drumming idol. Ans so on ....
With the advances in drum technology and craftsmanship, just about any top tier drum will be killer for most drummers and for most applications most of the time! That said, Gretsch USA Customs will get my vote for number 1.
