Need help with some negotiation

Heyo guys, so since I wanted to change my TD-1DMK to something better, I kept looking pages with used drumsets and I found DTX532K for 1100$ - seller says that new one is worth 1500$ - only one shop in my country has DTX532K and it's true - in it, it costs 1500$, however they are charging simply too much for them - for ex. they are selling pure TD-1DMK for 850$. And so, i'm not sure how to try negotiating price - maybe someone here has some experience?

Have you made an offer? What do you think they are worth? Supply and demand dictate value of anything, if there’s very limited supply they are going to be more expensive.

I made an offer that I can buy it for 800$ - even without kickpedal - but seller didn't agree because "new costs 1500$ and this was used for maximum 2 months, 1100$ or goodbye".

You think it’s trying once more, however sounds like you are going to need to be closer to 1100 than 800…if you can sell your other kit and recoup some of the money. Perhaps he would consider $950…

I don't fight with people about pricing. I'll make a polite offer, if they decline I'll usually make another offer that splits the difference of what they are asking and your initial offer (so in this case... $950, maybe $1k). If they decline again I just thank them for their time and move on.

I fully understand this guy not wanting to take a financial hit on an expensive piece of gear that is still practically new HOWEVER it is NOT new anymore and this is an important distinction. You can't buy a brand new car for $20k, drive it off the lot, then immediately sell it for $20k because you "barely drove it". It just doesn't work that way and this stubborn illogical seller is not worth stressing yourself out over.

Keep in mind, I pretty much guarantee he also got several other offers in the $800-$900 range.

I agree. "New" to me doesn't just signify that something is in perfect condition; it means I'm the only person who's ever owned it. I'd never pay anything close to full price for a preowned item. If I intend to spend top dollar, I'll go the retail route for the sake of perks such as warranties and so on. Why assume risks that don't represent substantial savings?

You hear it all the time: "I've had this for only two weeks, so it's still brand new and worth its original price." No it's not. That ended when you bought it. And if you don't want to lose money in a sale, don't buy things you don't intend to keep. The whole purpose of resale is that someone else can save money and you can recover a portion of yours. Regaining your initial expenditure shouldn't be an expectation.

Yup, ^this is spot on

Also, if someone ever responded to me "$xxxx or goodbye!" my immediate and only response would be "ok, goodbye."

Even if it was a good deal on the response... That poor attitude just puts a funk, or 'bad juju' if you will, on the gear. I don't need that stigma.

Sometimes sellers dont really want to sell their gear. So they go through the song and dance of listing it at a ridiculous price, going through some half-hearted negotiations, and ultimately saving themselves from parting from their gear.

If the list price seems off I wouldn’t even bother putting in an offer if it’s too high. It’s tough to reason with people who have an emotional attachment to what they are selling.

Okay so thanks you all guys for replying - true, maybe 800$ was too low, however then I offered 900$, and got same response "1100$ and no less", and then even I offered 1000$ - hell, even 100$ saving is better than nothing (tho it still a bit breaks my heart xD) and bruh, he just blocked me. Welp, gotta just look further for used or just wait for td-07dmk, then sell td-1dmk, add 200$ and (I hope) be happy.

It sounds like this is for the best. I would just move on at this point and keep an eye out. Not sure where you are located but here in the USA holiday weekends are GREAT occasions to get new gear from big retailers at a discount. For example, this is considered our "labor day holiday weekend" so there are sales aplenty.

Also (and I fully understand this isn't always a favorable response)... Does it HAVE to be Roland? I get they have a reputation and are the most commonly suggested ekit kits HOWEVER you can get the same features found on $3,000+ Roland kits with $800-$1,200 Alesis or Simmons kits or with $1,500-$2,000 Yamaha kits. And personally (ducks for cover)... I think Roland has some of the worst "out of the box" module sounds, ESPECIALLY when you spend $3,000 and still don't have a ride cymbal pad with a bell trigger and single zone toms lol.

Check this out: Yamaha name and reliability, 3 zone snare, 3 zone ride, fantastic out of the box kit sounds... All for $999 (us). They also have two models above this one with even more features. In my honest opinion anyone spending over double this on a Roland kit with the same (or usually less) features is either a brand whore or in the mood to waste money. THIS kit sounds wonderful:

Welp, first of all - true, Yamaha DTX-PRO sounds fantastic, that's why practically I'm planning getting DTX6K3X in future. Second, I don't really think that Roland sounds are bad - actually, I like most of them. Third - not sure, but isn't hi-hat on this set 1-zone? And fourth - music shops in my country are really greedy - while this set in US can cost 999$, in my country costs like 1300-1400$, and that really hurts.

EDIT: not including TD-50 and TD-27 - they sound bad for that price :p

The topic of currency conversion is always so interesting to me, I'm sure there is reason behind it but that's above my pay grade haha. That all aside, there is economy of scale taking place here so regardless of conversion rate... Roland will pretty much always cost more. I don't have a problem with their products, I just personally have found comparable features for a lot less money with other brands. Maybe try reverb? Many sellers ship internationally and I've had good experiences when it comes to negotiations there.

I also highly suggest exploring these guys https://www.drum-tec.com/ They have a great selection, they put out a bunch of high quality videos of different kits, and they advertise themselves as "Europe's largest e-drum specialist".

Buying outside my country generates another problem - shipping costs xD which often makes things outside my county even more expensive :/

Blast, I didn't think about that. Well I unfortunately may have tapped out all my helpful bits of info haha, sorry. I do wish you well though and keep us posted if you are able to find anything cool at a good price!

Is there no market for parts there? I wonder if you could just swap the module, since the rest looks the same.
Also I had some good experience with this shop from another neigboring country, shows a much lower price. I think they ship from Prague. I didn't buy a kit, but they were very responsive and quick, maybe worth a look.

Actually, comparing buying TD-07 alone, and selling TD-1DMK and buying new TD-07DMK, I'm saving at worst 100$ in seconds scenario.
