The Last Kit

I have to ask because I always took the CMs as a modern drum build/sound. Even DCP videos will say CMs have "that Ludwig Sound" but they are also selling it  . I guess you can trace back ~76' when they started with non-reinforcement shells but that shell formula was different....really the CM shell formula didn't start until 2001 so but maybe it's a solid lineage, IDK. I think they are fine sounding drums but this seems marketing which seems to work well....the "Keystone" name was a terrible name (sounds like a speech address) and think why they didn't sell well and change to "Classic Oak" which was smart, people like "classic" and "Ludwig" together I think.

I'm was actually considering selling my 60s Ludwigs, but I'm on the fence now though....

I actually had 10/13/16 on my Horizons, it's a really nice interval and complimented the N&C build very well...some say it takes getting used to but I found the tuning to be very easy. The walnuts would probably be my first pick if I were to get N&C again, would love to hear them in person someday.
Yeah, I'd keep the 60's Ludwigs if I were you. The CMs weren't terrible by any stretch but sitting next to my Prolite kit probably didn't help in forming my opinion of them. They were clearly a rung down from those. The CMs just seemed kind of one dimensional to me.

RE: 10-13-16 tom intervals. I vacillated between getting a 12 or 10. I'd just had the 12-13-16 with the Classic Maples and it was meh. I'd had the 10-13-16 once before on a Sonor Delite kit and it was pretty cool sounding so I decided to go that way with N&C Walnuts. Plus, Walnut doesn't have the same articulation, or clarity, as maple so I thought the 10 would provide a more defined step in the tonal range. The bad news is N&C quoted me 16-20 weeks for the 10". They said they're slammed right now. Ugh. I'll be 4 pc'ing it (3 pc + snare) until then. They do sound killer though! I'm currently using a 14x6 Summit Curly Maple solid shell snare with them. It has unlimited crack, tone and articulation. Beautiful drum.

That's a beauty. I've had the top of line DW, GMS, Tama and Noble and Cooley drums and the N&C's were absolutely my favorite sounding drums. When I had stripped down to one kit I kept the DW's for sentimental reasons and always regret parting with the Noble and Cooleys.

Here's a couple photos I took yesterday so I could this weird image out of my head. :ROFLMAO: ;)

Hmmm....something is different here, can't put my finger on it

Must be the be the Evan 56! :p

Drummers review has some nice ear porn as well to appreciate the sound of these beauties. I didn't like DCP's, they put their 13 on a snare stand and choked the life out of it.

Yeah, that vid helped sell me on them. I've never understood the snare stand thing for rack toms. There is absolutely no way you get the same resonance on a snare stand as you do flying them off a cymbal stand. I have a deeper bass drum (22x16) but he's right about it being a killer. I've got no complaints so far. I'm using coated over clear ambassador on the toms and PS3 clear on the kick. Great combo, though like Nolly says I'm thinking they could really sound good with the clear ambassadors, or even emps on top. I'm using a Summit Curly Maple solid shell 14x6 snare. Can't wait to get the 10x8.

I can't do it anymore. The buy sell thing has got me bonkers. I was fortunate today to meet a great guy selling a great kit at a VERY reasonable price. I drove 540 miles round trip to pick them up. It was a pleasure to meet him and the drive wasn't that bad as it was all freeway. That said, I've had my Ludwig kit up for sale for a couple weeks now and the inquiries are so weird that I'm starting to wonder about our future as a society. I've had a lot of fun trying different kits and configs but I'm done. All I need to do is move the Classic Maples and I won't have to answer any more dopey questions.

Anyway, here's the last of the Mohicans. Drove from Pittsburgh to Rochester, NY to get them and it was worth every mile. Thanks to Brian K. Super guy! These are Noble and Cooley Classic Walnut High Gloss Black hardware 22x16, 13x9, 16x16.

Everything was going good until you got the Sonors in the picture. D@MN!

N&C makes some of the absolute best - that's a beautiful kit...stunning - and I'm sure it sounds amazing.

Thanks NC ( hey same initials! ) . I'm not opposed to taking flyers on drums I've never played before. I've had a hankering for a walnut kit for quite some time and the choices are limited to just a few manufacturers. The fact they're pretty pricey caused much of the delay until I was able to find this kit as used but mint for what I considered to be a far better than fair price. I'd considered the Tama Star Walnuts but to get a finish I liked and sizes I wanted they were well over $4K new before taxes and s/h. When @RickP put me on to these preowned N&C's it was a no brainer even with having to make a pretty long drive. Long story short, I love them.

BTW, that Gretsch Bronze snare you have is one of the best metal snares I've ever played. What snares are you running on it?

I'm running some Canopus Vintage:

I feel like they give the drum a little room to breathe under the big hoops and heavy shell.

I debated with myself about posting these, but decided that since DV posted a big pic of his N&C kit in my "My Last Drum Set" thread:
that turnabout is fair play. So here goes - all in fun DV :ROFLMAO: :
Blasphemous desecration! The audacity! May you be awakened by a fart from a diseased yak in the middle of the night! 😱 :ROFLMAO: :poop:o_O

Those N&C drums are fantastic. They’re worthy of being the last set.

I don’t like selling gear anymore after having encountered the low ballers, jerks and time wasters too often. It’s not a new thing, but I experienced more of it over that last couple of years. I’d say it’s the majority of inquires I got when selling gear recently. “I’ll give you half of your asking price, but you’re gonna have to throw in that DW double pedal in the background before it’s worth my time. Let me know ASAP as I need to move on some other deals.”
