I am looking into buying a new set of cymbals since I currently use someone else’s that they let others use at the studio space I rent with a few other guys. I am fairly decided on Zildjian K cymbals since I have the most experience with them and I enjoy their sound more than As or S’ (I also tried UFIP cymbals and some HHX cymbals but there are inconsistencies there with some cymbal I like and others I don’t).
I am set on 15” K Light hats, 18” K Dark Medium Thin crash and a K Sweet 21” ride. That plus a decent bag will run me 1250 at my local store. Then I discovered there is a cymbal pack with 15” K Light hats, 17 and 19” Dark Thin crashes and a 20” Crash Ride for 1000 which I think is a crazy deal. I could just add the sweet ride and the price goes to 1300 (the crash ride is not ideal for me) which is a little higher than the 1250 euro 3 piece set, has 2 more cymbals BUT I miss out on the crash because I prefer a medium thin compared to a thin crash, and the 17” is bugging me a little. It isn’t a dealbreaker but it is a little less than ideal. I could always trade in the 17” later for an 18” medium thin down the road and pay a few extra euros in the trade but I want to get things right the first time. The crash ride is OK and I could always use it as a secondary ride or a crash.
Should I get the pre-configured pack plus a ride of my choice or should I just pick out the cymbals i really want even if I’m missing out on 2 cymbals? Insane how 2 K series cymbals are worth 50 euros in this case.
