Rack help!

I've searched and searched, emailed sites all over and get different answers or incomplete lists...

I'm looking for a simple front drum rack setup. A front rack only, to mount 2 top toms and 2 crash cymbals (boom style). That's all.
Buying a Pearl Decade shell pack, and have no clue what all clamps/mounts or any other hardware ill need to mount them on for the rack.

This setup looks perfect, but not sure if it has everything ill need hardware wise...Don't I also need tom mounts and tom arms as well?

Please let me know if there's a full setup available to achieve my goal, or a list of what all I'll need for a front rack like the one i described above (though it still looks like ill need other parts possibly)
Obviously, never used a rack setup before. Want something as simple as possible.

Thank yall very much!

That rack will work fine. You'll just use the arms that come with your set.

Just talked to my bud selling me the Pearl decade shell pack, he said it never came with any sort of tom mount hardware when he bought the shell pack brand new. So wouldnt i need tom arms and tom clamps to attach to the rack?

Yeah the shell pack doesnt come with mounting arms...which i will need right?

Just looking at pictures on the web, wont i need something like 2 Gibraltar Multi Clamps and 2 tom arms (have no clue which ones)?

That is strange. Even shell packs will come with tom arms and floor tom legs. If it is the 24/13/16 then it may not include a tom arm or mount.

Yeah the shells definitely come with floor tom arms/mounts, but the top 2 toms just have the built in Pearl tom mounts but nothing else. Pretty much shells only set.

So im thinking about doing this, hopefully its everything EXCEPT have no clue which tom arms ill need???
-also buy 2 Gib. Multi clamps for the two toms
-tom arms needed???

If yall see anything else needed for this rack, please let me know. I live in the boonies, so having to buy all this online...would suck if everything arrives but i forgot a couple clamps or something!

If the one you're buying doesn't come with mounting arms, then you'll need to pick up a pair of those as well. Any L-type tom arm with 7/8" tubes will work with Pearl mounts; obviously Pearl makes and sells them but so do Gibraltar, Sound Percussion, etc. You can also look for used ones on Reverb, eBay, etc. They are generally very solid and age well.

Edit: Pretty much any tom arm that looks like this with a 7/8" diameter will work.

Awesome! Thank you very much.

Do you see anything else needed for this simple front rack setup? Sorry, I always used the usual bass mounted setup so racks are new to me...

and that link you edited in will work with the Gib Multi clamps or is that another type of clamp i need to mount tom to rack?

Think the super clamps are really needed for Pearl Decade toms? looks like on sweetwater they are just a buck more for the super clamp...If i can get away with the reg. Multi Clamps ill go with those but dont want my toms saggin!

That's weird that his shell pack didn't come with tom mounts .... but it is what it is.

Here's what the Pearl shell pack .... and tom mounts look like. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Pearl/Decade-Maple-5-Piece-Shell-Pack.gc

Now, you could just order Pearl stuff, if you wanna keep your kit sorta O.G.

Pearl has their own design of suspension mount. Pictured in the first link. If you want to go Gibraltar ..... this is the suspention mount https://www.gibraltarhardware.com/product/sc-uss/ That attaches to the drum at 2 tension rod points.

Next, you have to decide what type of tom arm and mount/tom arm receptor to put onto the suspension unit. Here's the choice of tom arms. https://www.gibraltarhardware.com/product-category/part/tom-mounting-parts/tom-arms/ And if you're going Pearl .... here's the Gibraltar Pearl style mount https://www.gibraltarhardware.com/product/sc-670tb/

The first rack you linked has two clamps so you would just need the Pearl tom arms.

Yes .... first rack is this https://www.gibraltarhardware.com/product/gcs302c/ and it comes with two clamps to hold the rack tom arms. Also notice the cymbal booms are located in the vertical end tubes.

The second rack .... the Amazon link ..... is this rack https://www.gibraltarhardware.com/product/gcs500h/ Notice the cymbal booms attach to the horizontal bar rather than the vertical end bars.

Which of those two would you go with? I do like the height adjustment on the amazon link. Wonder if the other one would sit funny with a 22" base drum, or effect playing since im a fairly short dude?

You can still lower the vertical bar on the first rack. I'd personally go with the first one. Since the cymbal booms are in the verticals, they aren't taking up space on your horizontal bar. I have a Yamaha hex rack, and it has that feature. I'm running cymbal's out of my two verticals right now.

So the rack that has the cymbals mounted on the vertical (on each side)...can you still adjust the height of the horizontal bar? Worried about tom height....Want that option just cuz I'm a short dude, and have no clue if the one-size fits all racks without any adjustable height would be a smart buy since i cant try it before i buy.

Really glad you pointed that out, about the cymbals on the very side, it looks much cleaner that way anyhow. Looks like both are about the same price, actually the one on amazon is a few bucks cheaper.

Yes. The two GCRA right angle clamps https://www.gibraltarhardware.com/product/sc-gcra/ that join the horizontal bar to the vertical, you can adjust the height of the horizontal bar with those. The Amazon rack is a little cheaper at first, but by the time you add in two additional GCRMC clamps and two additional GCHML memory locks, which you need to mount your toms, then it's actually more than the Lone Star Perc. rack.

You need the memory locks even if you dont plan on moving the set once its built?

Can't answer that one for you (since I use a Yamaha rack, not a Gibraltar). Hopefully someone else can. I know round tube racks in the early years had issues with clamps slipping/rotating ..... and the memory locks were an extra grip feature that helped eliminate that problem.

My first rack was a Pearl DR-100 rack. Square tube. The Icon rack replaced it. Pearl, as far as I know, does not have memory locks for their rack clamps. And my Yamaha also does not have memory locks for the small clamps that hold the toms and cymbals, only for the large 90 degree clamps that join the vertical and horizontal bars.

If you buy the Lone Star rack, you get two memory locks, so no worries. Here's a customer quote about the Gibraltar Road series clamps .... which are the more expensive line with the black rack clamps.

"I never seem to have enough of Hinged Memory Locks. Started using the Gibraltar gear about 2007 & its all still in use to This Day. If anything seems too Large always use One on both sides of any Tom Bracket or some percussion setup that looks overly heavy."
