drum trigger + microphone

To add to the mystery it looked to me like there were 2 x ddrum triggers on the snare as well as the mic??
No idea why someone would mic a triggered snare (maybe they were trying to combine/ switch between the acoustic snare sound and triggered sample depending on the song)?

Several possibilities, all of which are fairly common.

1) They want the real snare sound, but also want to blend in a certain amount of triggered sound.

2) They use the trigger sound only on certain songs, the mic on others.

3) The mic goes to the audience. The triggered sound only goes to the monitors. This prevents any weird feedback loops from happening on stage.

Thanks, that could be true. i haven't thought about possibility number 2 and 3

i think the 2nd trigger is mounted on bass drum
Ah yes, I believe it is.
It's not like he's doing insanely fast blast beats and NEEDS the bass drum triggers but as DED points out- good to have both options on hand!
