Kirk Covington is my undisputed world champion of 'drumming face'. Every musical thought going through his nervous system is hardwired to his ample body and exteremely expressive facial muscles

so much so that other great drummers get a kick out of mimicing him:

Here's a pic I took of John Mclaughlin in DC this summer.. he's feeling that flattened 5th.. ( in his prostrate, I think.. )

The craziest music face was Adam Woods, drummer for The Fixx.

In videos, he looks composed. But I saw The Fixx live numerous times in the late 80's, early 90s, and live he would drum with his tongue hanging out like a dog. Totally beyond goofy.

Unbelieveble! I used to love that band! Woman on a Train, In Suspence, More Moving People.. whoa... loved them. I saw them once at NYU back in the early 80s. Great gig. Whatever became of them ? Yea, Adam looked like he was doing pushups.

The Fixx never broke up. They still tour regularly. I see their name come up on retro-80's festivals. Although I have gone to see them live in some time.

Not surprised that they're still at it. What great writing, arranging, and just great songs, period. Nothing that I'd change about them...except maybe that over-reverbed signature 80s snare sound : )

Muso faces come from a combination of effort, showmanship and tension - could be one of those things, could be all.

First to come to mind are John Weathers of Gentle Giant, the Joe Cocker of drums. See around 1:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWfmfgHXAfE

Second is Amanda Palmer of "punk cabaret" duo, the Dresden Dolls (with ex Violent Femmes drummer, Brian Viglione) ... refreshing to see a vocalist not try to be a plastic cutesie girly pouting sweetie booby gyrating sex kitten: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4USCwkcdjc
