Roberto Cerletti was born in 1988 in Basel, Switzerland. From the first moment of his life he felt in love with music. Growing up with strong Italian roots from his Neapolitan mother and the passion for music inherited from his father, an outstanding bass- and stick player, Roberto joins only five years old a course for African drums and chant with the renowned percussionist Joseph Mataré.
With eight years he starts to play the cello and continues the studies for three years.
In 1999 at the age of eleven he still feels this strong rhythm pulsing inside and he knows he’s got to beat that drum.
His first teacher is Roland Fischer, one of the greatest and most motivating teacher on earth. After four years of intense study and a strong musical basis he changes to the Jazz school of Basel. There he studies drums with Benedikt Bürgin and Theory with Stephan Sieber.
As he advances on drums and also studies classical piano, he starts with his first compositions which he establishes with his first band „incitatus“, a rock-oriented band that he founds with school friends in the year 2000. „incitatus“ plays various concerts and records some sessions as demo tapes. In the following years he joins various Jazz - and Latin groups and begins to play concerts regularly.
After the obligatory school, Roberto enters the „Gymnasium“(Academic High School) and writes his „Matura“ (High School Graduation) this summer.
In November 2006 he records his first Promotion DVD entitled “Nachklang” („Lingering Sound“). He then launches „DM66“ a „work in progress“ band that gives him the freedom of experimentation and the mélange of electronic and live played music.
During all these years he has been living a lot of highlights while visiting classes and workshops (Drums & Percussion Paderborn, X-treme drumcamp etc.) with many legendary and unforgettable drummers:
Rick Marotta, John Blackwell, Martin Verdonk, Mark Schulman, Ralf Gustke, Dom Famularo, Walfredo Reyes jr., Joel Taylor, Wim Dykstra, David Garibaldi, Joe Porcaro, Chester Thompson, Luis Conte, Werner Schmitt, Chad Wackermann, Adam Nussbaum, Dirk Brand, Bill Bruford, Rodney Holmes, Thomas Lang, Benny Greb, Joel Rosenblatt, Jason Bittner, Jim Chapin, Fritz Hauser and many more
At this time Roberto is preparing himself for his studies at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood that begin in October 2007.
