Hi Derrick,
I looked at the video a couple of days ago. It's pretty cool and should be helpful to many drummers. I like your straight forward approach and the unpretentious vibe. Keep up the good work. Peace

Props on the push pull stuff and thanks for the credit!
As you said, once the basic concept is clarified we all have our own methods to interpret the concept. You definitely understand the concept and are actually pretty close to my own method, which i will explain on my upcoming video too.

Hey Derrick,
My Name is Pete Mendillo. I am a drummer from Auburn New York now residing In Memphis TN. I have played with Jimi Jamison Survivor, Savoy Brown, Bobby Kimball (Toto) to name a few.
I happen to be nosing around the Drummer World website because I had been looking for someone or some video to show me the correct way to execute the Moeller technique. FINALLY !!! FINALLY!!! Someone who explained it and it didn't sound like Chinese calculus. Your teaching methods are extremely cool and I just wanted to write ya and say thanks for giving me a new goal to aim for.
Do you have a video or DVD that can be purchased because I will gladly send a money order for it. This has given me a new outlook for my playing as I already have seen a change in my approach and a easiness to my playing. I have many other question regarding bounce and cymbal technique, but hopefull that will happen later.
Thanks again and keep up the great work. Brilliant!

My highest regards,
Pete Mendillo

Derrick Pope...

At a very young age Derrick found a passion for music and language. He pursued these arts throughout his years at high school and then at college by way of private lessons locally, and simply playing and practicing as much as possible.. Along the way, by use of a personal computer at home, he discovered computers and the internet and then began a double major in English Composition and Web Design.

Between school and computers, Derrick competed in numerous local and regional solo drum set and snare competitions, winning so many that he was eventually banned from several of them. He also intensely pursued his love of music and drumming by composing his own music, performing in many local bands and with several local drum-lines, as well as educating at high schools and music stores. It was during this time that he fell into the marvels of modern sound engineering and audio production. By writing and recording his own songs, he became proficient in many forms of audio and sound design.

Derrick is currently an active performing and educating percussionist and also runs IT and web design management for his father’s architectural firm. He is the head of IT and graphic / web design at Mogul Mind Studios in Pittsburgh, in addition to being involved in many of the sound engineering and audio production that goes on at the studio.

Derrick’s many influences include (but are not limited to) Vinnie Colaiuta, Joe Morello, Tony Williams, Virgil Donati, and Steve Smith.
