Probably not much difference at all sound-wise, but the Suede head will have a texture that could work with brushes well.

I haven't tried either though.

Vintage Emps are great. I've never used black suede heads so I honestly can't compare. Vintage Emps are just really nice over Ambassadors.

Love vintage emps, more than regular emps actually.

I've always wanted to try black heads, so a black suede emperor might be in the works soon. Purely for cosmetic reasons.

Out of those two I've only tried the white suede emperors and I found them to have a buzzy quality because of the plies being sueded on both sided.

It was slightly like a roland mesh head buzz.

They otherwise were fairly similar to standard coated emperors.

I glean from the web that the black suedes are a little heavier from the pigment.

If I went with the vintage ends what would recommend as a resonant head

I use black suede ambassadors as resos and think they work great. I have coated G1's as batters, so I like that open sound. I had black suede emps as my batters with the black suede ambs and I thought they sounded good, but a bit dead for my live sound. If I was to record I would put the BSE's back on, as they are a bit more focused, yet still lovely.
I have no idea about the vintage emps, and honestly I am going for an open sound, so two ply heads don't really apply for me. But to be completely honest, I can't really tell a difference anyway from the drivers seat. Just smack 'em!
