Default Inconsistency in size? Remo heads

Hello

Some time ago I bought a clear emperor for my 8" tom which I to some extent had to force down on the bearing edge. Was thinking about returning the head at first, but tried tuning anyway and it turned out fine.

But! Five minutes ago I opened a pack with a clear ambassador for my 12" tom and I have the same issue, the drum head is too small for the drum, or the head is warped and therefore doesn't fit. In either case, I'm going back to the store tomorrow but I'm wondering, has anyone else noticed this?

Remo seems to be having it's troubles lately.

I almost bought a Remo head, once.

I put Remo in my rear view 15 years ago and never looked back, Aquarian all the way for me now, they sound better, last longer and cost less, it was a no brainer really...lol

Haven't ever had this happen before. Remo, or any other brand.

How old are the drums you are putting the heads on?
Any chance of out of round shells?
A vintage shell may be a more snug fit (that's the reason Aquarian offers their Vintage model heads).

I'd bring the two toms to the shop when you go to exchange the heads if it's not a huge pain to do so.

Good luck!

It's a one year old Sonor 3007 kit, the drums are in perfect shape. Was planning to go back today but stayed home to play instead... I'm bringing the drum to the store, so I'll most likely find one that fits. But this definitely makes me glance at other brands... Haven't had much luck with Evans though, so Aquarian might be the one.

Shells these days are typically a little undersized to have drum head collars fit better.
So unless you have a couple out of round drums (doubtful), the heads should have fit.

Maybe the heads got smooshed and put out of round during shipping? That happens, and it's the packer (of the shops drum head order), and the shipping company that's to blame.
The shop can get replacements from Remo sent to them if they report it when the heads come in--if they don't, it's on them to replace them.

Bringing the drums to the shop is a good idea anyway, because you could try out a couple different heads and hear what you like the best--and get replacements for the bad heads without a hassle.

It turns out, that Remo may be in fact be delivering perfect drum heads after all. As you can read in this thread, it seems that my at least my 12" tom is a tad too large.

TL;DR, is there any brand with drum heads that seem to fit drums that may be a bit too big?

I'm hearing nothing but good about Aquarian in general so I might give them a try.
