And, please, no Febreeze either. The stuff's nasty. I'll go down to the ghetto gas station before I use a bathroom that's been gassed with Febreeze. And by the time I get there, I couldn't care less how the paper is rolling off the spool.

Lids should always be down prior to flushing and remain that way until the next use.

Why? Because interestingly enough, the act of flushing creates a cloud of tiny water droplets, each loaded with bacteria. You flush with the lid up and that cloud will waft around the room and eventually land on every surface. Lid down doesn't eliminate this but it does reduce it. Remember this if you're one of those people who like to keep their toothbrush next to the sink, out in the open.

And for those who, like me, are too curious, human solid waste is roughly 75% water and 25% solid matter. Of the solid matter, roughly 30% is bacteria.

Ooo, I see it's lunch time. Yum!

Do we really see a white light when we die?

And why when we where kids, when we died, we stuck our tongues out? (or was that just me...?)

Yes we were. Until all these mysophobic types (who've obviously never lived in shared accommodation squalor with 4 other disgusting young males who were lucky enough to have a seat on the toilet in the first place, let alone be concerned whether it was left up or down) let fly with their bacteria and odour concerns and made it all about the lid.

But considering we have progressed from seats to lids, for the record I always put the lid down.......not to contain bacteria.....or odour, but as my own silent protest to counter the 'position of the seat' grief. If I have to put the seat up, then Mrs Pocket can do the same with the lid. Pure, old fashioned, unadulterated spite. :-)

As an aside, brilliant topic for a drum forum. I foresee this debate taking pride of place with all the other great debates in the future. Which is best? Big kit v small kit? Trad grip v matched grip? Heel up v heel down? Forward v rear facing bog roll? Seat up v seat down?

Yes, it is amazing how many people have chimed in on it in such a short time. People clearly have very strong opinions on the subject. Regarding big kit v small, trad v matched, heel up v down, I say whatever works for you because it doesn't effect me. Lid position potentially does effect me so I'm goose-stepping to lid down (in my house anyway).

There are few better reasons to do anything. Never mind whether or not you've married my sister: are you sure you're not my brother?

Yup. To add my two-pennor'th re lids, it can be immensely annoying, not to mention potentially catastrophic, if the lid has been left down without my realising it and I sit down on it. Sometimes I'm in that much of a hurry. Mothers of a certain age will understand.

Jim, it's a wonder any of us are still alive.

I was hoping for a report. Did he agree that your version was better? Our versions of songs are way better than the originals, largely because we pick some rather rubbishy ones and give them a sparkly makeover :)

Excellent night. Band played quite well, but with enthusiasm. I'll always take that over perfection (just as well really eh ;) We raised a lot of money for Oz's new chair, & much better than that, he had a great time.

I didn't see Verden after the gig, so I've no idea really. I think we played it quite well, & as it's totally different to Mott the Hoople's version, I doubt comparison is really a good idea anyhow. Our version is closer to the Bowie original, but with a beautiful piano refrain in the middle :)

Wow. I like the comment about it sounding like RTF. I followed this back to more by Frans Vollink. There's some very nice stuff there. Some of the guitar in this sounds rather Holdsworth-esque: https://soundcloud.com/fransvollink/wristkiller-rhpii

Thanks!

Yeah, it does sound Holdsworth influenced. I do think the first track is a humane way to inflict a Rick Roll, though :)

Promoter just called off Saturday's gig, directly after I just spent two hours reconfiguring the lighting rig & loading up ready to haul out. Ah cock! Just as well we insist on a 60% cancellation contract eh ;) Not the point really :(

In other news, today is A Great Day: Mr Madge replaced the toilet roll, and he put it on the right way round. I think this is the first time ever that he's managed to get it right. Hurrah and huzzah!

Today's random thought, thunk while riding my bike this morning...

A great rider on a great bike probably beats a great rider on a good bike but a great rider on a good bike beats a good rider on a great bike every time.

Obvious parallels to drummers and drums.

I'll say a great rider on a crappy bike beats a good rider on a good bike anytime. ( I use the word 'great' with the respect it deserves )

I have a friend up at college who apparently died for five minutes during an operation, and he didn't see a light, he just had a very vivid dream of being in a field. The metaphysical is beyond my understanding though.

As for the second, it probably has something to do with how there's a loss of muscle control upon death, and the jaw tends to drop open. Kids' tendency to exaggerate things turned it into the tongue rolling out too.

Doesn't sound like he died at all. It sounds like he had a very vivid dream during his operation and something went wrong. If his heart stopped, that certainly doesn't mean he died, at least not within our modern understanding of it. If all of his brain functions also ceased (high and low level) and he started decomposing, then I think we could say he "died".

When playing dead as a kid, a remember the tongue thing but I also remember that everyone sort of cocked their head to one side as well.

Went to see my friends band play today at a party. I also heard the band before and the band after. I'm so disappointed with most of the other original bands out there that I hear. Even my friends band isn't all that great, but it is trippy and weird and, above all, different. It is very rare that I hear something that really catches my interest. Everybody wants to do some punk metal rap thing or post-punk cow twang thing or another with songs about how much light beer they drank in high school. In all the years I played shows, most of the music has been really disappointing. We all cry about not getting paid, myself included, but really most of the music is not that good. Sorry.
