That is a LOT of people behind that one. The pilots that have to push the button to dissipate the chemicals-the aircraft mechanics that would have to fix that one part of the plane that they have no idea what it does-the engineers that designed the thing-the fuelers at the airport that have to not only refuel the plane but need to put the chemicals back in.

Then there is all those points that JimFiore brought up.

And Jim was doing so well.

Right up to the point when he mentioned that the chemicals would be diluted to homeopathic levels.

[irony]Everybody knows that homeopathic solutions become more effected the more they are diluted.[/irony]

Either that, or Jim stumbled onto something, possibly inadvertently, and the chem trail peeps are applying homeopathic "techniques".

All I know is, if I were Jim I'd be wearing a tin foil hat 24/7 and watching out for unmarked helicopters.

And to think that yesterday I didn't even know that chem trails even existed!

(And today, they still don't exist.)

I know a contrail when I see one. These are not contrails. I saw a contrail, it acted one way, like vapor would act, then I saw another trail, one that did not go away and lingered, not dissipating. There are not two different types of contrails.

Another conspiracy theory to worry about.

According to the chemtrail conspiracy theory, some trails left in the sky by high-flying aircraft are chemical or biological agents deliberately sprayed for sinister purposes undisclosed to the general public.[1] Believers in the theory argue that normal contrails dissipate relatively quickly, and contrails that do not dissipate must contain additional substances,[2][3] but their arguments have been dismissed by the scientific community: such trails are simply normal water-based contrails (condensation trails) which are routinely left by high-flying aircraft under certain atmospheric conditions.[4] Although proponents have attempted to prove that the claimed chemical spraying does take place, their analyses have been flawed or based on misconception.[5][6]
Because of the widespread popularity of the conspiracy theory, official agencies have received many inquiries from people demanding an explanation.[2] Scientists and government officials around the world have repeatedly needed to confirm that supposed chemtrails are in fact nothing but normal contrails.[7]
The term chemtrail is a portmanteau of the words "chemical" and "trail", just as contrail is a contraction of "condensation trail".[8] Believers in the conspiracy theory speculate that the purpose of the claimed chemical release may be for solar radiation management,[2] psychological manipulation, human population control, weather modification, or biological or chemical warfare, and that the trails are causing respiratory illnesses and other health problems.[1][9][10] Contrails are formed at high altitudes (5-10 miles or 8-16 km) and if any chemicals were released at such altitude they would disperse harmlessly and fall many hundreds of miles away, or degrade before touching the ground.

Wait, I'm confused now. Was it a chem or a con trail that fired the shot from the grassy knoll?

And was that also the same trail that faked the moon landings from a Hollywood sound stage?

Even within the same minute?

I love how people have to resort to calling it a conspiracy theory.

Now it's just crazy talk, right? I'm just crazy to think that what I saw was real because rational people such as yourself have already put a label on this one, and anybody who would think otherwise should just be considered another conspiracy nut.

Good job, guys. Do you get all your marching orders from Talk Radio and the Heritage Foundation?

A conspiracy theory is an explanatory proposition that accuses two or more persons, a group, or an organization of having caused or covered up, through secret planning and deliberate action, an illegal or harmful event or situation. (hat tip to Wiki)

Saying that someone is intentionally spraying bad stuff on us via airplanes contrails whether true or not is a conspiracy theory.

Perhaps conspiracy is the conspiracy. There is no factual evidence in either direction. What's not to say that there are government officials that do nothing but start ideas to get a portion of the population to think that seeing is not believing, and there are other motives behind everything. This is why I stay out of this thing, the argument is pointless. It is like arguing over whether or not the Loch Ness monster is real.

My intention in posting what I did was just to define a contrail in that they do not always dissipate quickly. That the atmosphere plays a role. The conspiracy theory is just that. Normally I get my marching orders from drum forums.

Looks just like a catfish in the Doradidae family if you ask me. If you would like to know why I say this, well it is because I have one. The head shape, long slender fins, and body taper are all identical. Given enough food and a big enough body of water, catfish will just keep getting bigger and bigger. Catfish can also survive in many different conditions and eat just about anything. Mine is in a 30 gallon tank and is about 8" long. It started life smaller than my thumb.

Nobody knows for sure.

We do know that both were set up by the Illuminati who were acting under the control of the alien lizard people.

I think you'll find that initially they were just run-o-the-mill aliens.....you know, the regular flying saucer, anal probing kind that conspiracy theorists believe the government are covering up by secretly stashing away at Area 51. It was all that standing around under chemtrails that caused the reptilian like mutation

As I tell my freshmen, I have a hypothesis that a race of super intelligent invisible chipmunks from the heart of the Andromeda galaxy secretly control our financial system. They have cloaking devices we cannot penetrate. You cannot, of course, absolutely disprove this hypothesis, but is that sufficient reason to believe that it is true and live your life accordingly? Occam's Razor is useful at times like these.

Why is that whenever I chuck a daddy long legs spider out of my house, they always turn right around and march back towards the door?

If something a bazillion times my size picked me up and threw me, I'd damn' well keep on going in the same direction!

Shame, but we had to make the same decision a while back, for the same reasons, but under different circumstances. I understand, but it's a tough one :(

My randomly accessed thought for today that has nothing to do with horses or conspiracies:

Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.

Seriously.

I think I get what you are saying but would like an example.

My thoughts were that there is an infinite amount of combinations of musical notes, but the scale of notes is limited, so the parameters for musical infinity is not as big as numerical infinity, as numbers can continue on forever. Just add 1 and the chain continues. Is this correct?

It doesn't matter that there are a finite number of notes in a scale if you're considering possible note combinations. If you don't place a limit on the number of notes in a piece then the number of possible note combinations is infinite. Fundamentally this is no different than counting up integers. The only thing that's different is the number of symbols we use. For ordinary integers, we have ten symbols, the numerals 0 through 9. We simply arrange them in a specific order to represent a given number, and because we don't limit how many we can use, the number of possible combinations is infinite.

A melody is hardly different, assuming we just look at the pitches. In this case we have 11 discrete symbols, A through G#. In that way, you can think of the pitches in a melody as a base 11 number. So if we don't limit the length of the melody, there are an infinite number of possible melodies.

So the number of integers is infinite and the number of simple melodies is infinite, and both of these infinities are the same size. But some infinities are bigger than others.

The number of even integers is infinite. The number of odd integers is infinite. The number of even and odd integers is infinite and all three are the same size. In contrast, the number of real numbers is also infinite but that infinity is bigger than the number of integers.

When this property was discovered some 100+ years ago, it drove some people crazy so if it's not immediately apparent, don't let it bother you. The key is to think in terms of pairings for comparison. What do we mean by A is larger than B? Essentially it means that if we try to pair each element in set A with a corresponding element in set B, there will be items in A that won't have a corresponding element. In other words, stuff will be left over. Hence, A is bigger than B. We can make this comparison even if the sets A and B are both infinite.

Math is fun.

Ahh, gotcha. I was thinking too big. This makes more sense than trying to nail it down to one or two specific things.

The way you tell it, maths (with an "s", of course) is pretty amazing though.

Oh - I read today that there is an infinite number of games of chess, but a finite number of grains of sand on the earth. Is that true?

Not quite. Finite grains of sand, certainly. Chess is limited but on a cursory Google, it's 10^120 combinations - more combinations than estimated number of particles in the Universe.

Chess is a silly game (= I am too stupid to play it), but I have a slight problem with finite grains of sand. I thought that sand came from rocks that were washed away by water, and since that's a persistent event, it would go on for ever? Or at least until there is more water than rock?

It could but there is a finite amount of rock. It wouldn't go on forever in any real sense either because the Earth has - at best - a few billion years.

Either way, there are more combinations of chess than there are predicted elementary (important word) particles in the Universe. That what gives it such enduring appeal!

I love chess. It's a shame I'm a terrible player. I won my first game in about 10 years yesterday.

Frankly, I'd rather play my PS3, and even then, I have to buy in Young People to get me out of pickles.

When I told them that there was a number called "9" they declared me a heretic and sentenced me to death.)

On a vaguely related (to infinity, not spiders) note, some years back Mrs JustJames thought she wanted an eternity ring. We went to a jewellery store, where the salesperson asked if we wanted to see eternity rings or half eternity rings. I pointed out that technically they're the same thing.

Well, I thought it was funny.
