Default Paiste Alpha Vs Zildjian ZHT

Hi,

I am looking to buy 18" China and 10" Splash. Any review of either one? Are they of the same range?

Cheers

if you're buying brand new, the alphas will smoke ZHT's out of the competition... not even worth mentioning ZHT's

Out of the sheet cymbal variety that Zildjian offers, the ZHT line sounds the best to me. If I had to choose between those two, I would have to go with the Paiste Alpha.

Try listening to them both.

Alphas are fantastic cymbals. I cannot speak enough about how highly I regard them, especially the crashes and rides. I say this a man that doesn't own many 'bright' cymbals but if I did own any more, they would be Paiste and they would probably be Alphas.

With that said, you're making a very strong decision about the china. There are fundamentally two different 'schools' of china cymbals and they are the 'traditional' and 'European'. 'European' chinas tend to be a little smoother and brighter, with some trash but also some sustain. The 'traditional' chinas are shorter in sustain, darker and much trashier. An example of a 'traditional' china would be something like a Wuhan.

So if you're not sure about the china, I would go out and play a few. Play a few 'European' chinas (Sabian, Paiste, Zildjian, Meinl) and play a few 'traditional' (Wuhan et. al). See which category you prefer.

Paiste, not because of my name either.

I think the ALpha China is GREAT! ZHT are just not the same , and personally my LEAST favorite cymbal.

The Alpha has more character and VERY good in metal setting.

If it's good enough for Dale Crover....or do I just find a way to work him into drummer conversations? Although his 28 inch china is a PAiste prototype, and 2002 line by the way...

I own a Paiste Alpha 18" inch china. Very good sounding cymbal. I am Zildjian guy and i recommend the Alpha over the ZHT any day

Thanks for all the comments.

Its a sad fact that in the country i live in, we dont really get to try out drums, pedals not to mention cymbals. I will be getting Nicko McBrain’s signature of Alpha Boomer China.

Cheers

Alphas are in a different league to the ZHT's in my opinion, but it all comes down to your ear , good luck :)
