Yamaha to Roland td-3 Hi Hat pedal

Hey guys, I recently picked up a roland td-3 kit with a bad hi hat pedal. A friend of mine has a yamaha DTXplorer hi hat pedal that he let me try to see if it works but it doesnt.
Anyone ever got this thing to work?
