I think freehand is all about following the stick and its natural bounce. So your wrist would make every stroke, it just uses the bounce to get back up. Open/close is one hit on the wrist's way down and one on the way up snapping the fingers closed. So you get 2 strokes for one up and down movement of the wrist by utilizing the fingers more.

lol, swell. I think i use a weird hybrid of all three of them. lol. The way I treat it, is that the fulcrum on the stick up about 1 inch infront my thumb and is moving up and down in kind of half moon/pendulum (spelling??) kinda motion. The fulcrum reaches the to of the shape when its about to rebound and I just give it a kind of "push" back up to tap the drum in the same motion before the rebound and then let it rebound naturally.......Sounds like open/close in a way?????
Actually change that. The fulcrum stays the same, its my hand that moves in that shape....... |
