Default Emad 1ply , EQ4

If you muffle an EQ4 internally wound'nt you get the same sound as a 1ply Emad ? If not what makes them different sound wise and why?

It is the same head I believe so you should be able to dampen and get pretty close to the EMAD sound. The difference being the EMAD is equally dampened all the way around the head. If you have an EQ4 give it a try and see. I have one that came with my Tama but just removed it and put an EMAD on. GC was blowing them out for $19 bucks! I bought 2 of them and wish they had a few more at the time.

The EQ4 heads are already muffled internally with a fixed internal ring. The width of this ring is determined by the diameter of the head. I have EQ4 batter heads on six of my kits.

Nodiggie GC had the Emads or the EQ4 on sale? Now that you put an Emad on wich do you like better?

While the heads are the same in terms of film, the internal muffling with a 10mil flap on the EQ4 is very different from the external adjustable muffling on the EMAD (which comes from the foam ring inside the plastic EMAD fixture. Damping externally provides a different response allowing for increased low-end while also achieving maximum overtone control.[/drumhead geekiness]
