Default Can you trigger drum mutes?

Hi all,

I've searched the internet and keep coming up empty on this one. Lots of info on DIY triggers and mesh heads, but that's not what I'm wondering.

I know I can make mesh heads, and then trigger them. But I'm wondering if I can just put neoprene mutes on my acoustic heads and somehow just trigger neoprene mutes?

I'd like to keep the acoustic heads, reduce the volume, and also be triggered.

Can it be done?

Where There's a Will, There's a Way.

Report back when you've tried it. Ha ha.

Seriously, I think you might have some success with a little experimentation. Most all kits used to use rubber pads, but the sensor was placed underneath them, not on top.
I'm not sure what the response would be, but it's worth a try. I'd try just one drum first to see if it works, before buying stuff for a whole set.

Also - I saw some videos from the last namm show that showed a product that does exactly what you're describing - muting the drums, while providing triggers. Can't remember the name of the company (or product) right now, but if I think of it, I'll post back.

EDIT - miditronix - onhead and inhead, manufactured and distributed by Aquarian (2nd story down here):

I am pretty sure you can trigger these mutes but they need to sit firmly on your toms to avoid double triggering.
