Default Non-spec sizes in kit?

Hello everyone! I am new to Drummerworld, but I've been reading a lot of the threads over the last few days and I am very inpressed with the community here.

I have something that has been bugging me slightly for quite some time and I was wondering if anyone here had ever heard of something similar. I recently just purchased a brand-new DW Performance Series kit (5 piece shell pack) and I couldn't be happier. However, DW lists the shell packs at 8x10, 9x12, 12x14, 5.5x14 or 9x12, 14x16, 6.5x14. Guitar Center lists the whole 5 piece pack as 8x10, 9x12, 12x14, 5.5x14, 18x22. I purchased mine, brand-new out of the box and what I have is 8x10, 9x12, 14x16, 6.5x14, and 18x22. This is fine by me as I prefer the deeper snare and the larger floor tom. I just have never seen mention on this particular config anywhere.

Here's what makes it truely strange to me. In 1988 I purchased a brand-new off the shelf Yamaha Power Tour Custom shell pack. In the Yamaha catalog it is model PTC1282 and consists of 10x10, 10x12, 11x13, 16x16, 6.5x14, 16x22. The next model up is the same but adds one more tom at 12x14 inches. What I have is 10x10, 10x12, 12x14, 16x16, no snare, and 16x22.

Twenty something years apart I seem to have received two anomolous kits that defy their manufacturers' configurations! Has anyone here ever experienced this or heard of it happenning to anyone? are mine completely unique? Its no big deal as I love both kits and they both serve me well, it's just a curiosity.

P.S. I would love to track down an original Yamaha snare that would have come with that kit in Piano Black Laquer!

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
