Default VicFirth Carbon Fiber Sticks

Has anyone tried the new VF carbon fiber sticks? MSRP is $100. That's a little steep for a pair of sticks. They will probably sell in stores for $60 or so. That's about the price of 7 or 8 pairs of regular sticks. Do you think they will last 7 or 8 times as long as wood sticks?

... It's carbon fiber, a popular candidate for making modified car parts with. I'd be more worried about what it did to my cymbals than vise versa.

When I saw those at NAMM, I thought 'oh, so that's what became of the Carbosticks/Blackwood stuff' which BTW were atrocious sticks and broke very quickly, even on my quieter, local gigs. But I'm told by Vic Firth that theirs are different, that it's NOT the Carbosticks. At $100 list, they'd better NOT be!

If they're taking anything from carbon fiber in the car and bike industries then there could be something to them. Basically, they must be resin soaked carbon fiber cloth. They'd probably feel as light as maple sticks but w/ some shock absorption. I couldn't see them handling rim shots to well though...

Yeh I got a feeling rim shots and the high hats are really gonna chew them up plus your probably gonna get little sharp fibers as they start to get chewed.

I cant wait for these sticks to come out but I am also worried about the durablility of them, because if I am going to drop 60-100 dollars on a pair of sticks theyd better be worth it.

I would be more concerned about their flex. Your hands will take a beating if they have no give to them. But for even 60. bucks they will gather dust on the shelves of my store unless they last 6 times longer than wood.
