Default Aquarian Super 2's not fitting

Hello, everyone. Last night, I got a 13 and 14 inch Super 2 tom heads for my Tama Imperialstars. I got them home, put them on, and they wouldnt fit over the wrap. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I force them on? Should I take them back and exchange them, or is this a common thing? Has anyone else had this problem? Im also going to email Aquarian and inquire, but I wanted to know if anyone in the real world had this problem as well. Thanks.

Never saw that before. Aquarian typically makes their colliers a little large to fit any drum.
I bet it was just an odd batch, I would take them back to the store and try again, or contact Aquarian directly. The customer serves is second to none!

You can always give a set of G2's a shot. Shouldn't have a problem at all. Let me know if you have any questions.

Well, I had emailed Aquarian about it, and got a response saying to contact Roy Burns directly. I called him, and explained the problem. Mr. Burns told me to cut out a piece of the wrap where it overlaps with itself, and try again. If it still didnt fit, he wanted me to call back, and he would send me 2 brand new heads. It worked, but not as well as it should have. I measured one of the drums itself, it was 14" on the nose. I then measured the inside of the hoop, and it only measured 13 7/8ths. It was a whole 1/8" smaller than the drum, and cutting a slice of the wrap down only removed about 1/16". Im going to call Mr. Burns tomorrow and let him know. The customer service is second to none, as I dont know any owner or CEO of ANY company that will talk to their consumers directly.

As for giving the G2's a shot, they didnt have the sound I wanted. Believe me, this was the hardest decision I have made when it came to my drumming lately. I spent about 3 hours in my shop the other night trying to decide what head I wanted. The Super 2's were perfect. Too bad they didnt fit...literally. Thanks everyone for the replies. Ill have pics up of the new kit once the paint dries on the snare drum project im working on. :::::mwwwaaahahahahahahahaha::::

That's interesting, I have an Imperialstar also and I just put Studio X's on mine and they fit fine. The hoop's are slightly bigger than Remo or Evans but they still fit. Maybe it's just something with the Super 2's.

What generation Imperialstars? I have one of the first gen kits, with concert toms. Im wondering if the zolo-coat, plus the wrap made the drums just a bit too bulky for modern heads. The Pinstripes that were on it when I bought the kit came off fine...no prying or anything at all.

Mine's one of the newer ones, I got it in the fall of 2010. So yeah, it's probably the wrap and the concert toms. Have you tried Evans heads or maybe a newer Remo? Their hoops are smaller than Aquarian.

I've had this exact problem, but with ddrum. Remo's work, and I've got some Evans ready to try. I personally think the culprit is both Aquarian and the drum company. Drums should be undersized so that whether wrapped or lacquered, all heads fit. At the same time, Aquarian is definitely making their hoops too wide.

I didnt try Evans, but I did try a different Remo that I had, and there was no problem at all. I dont know. Im not worried about it much anymore. I took that kit out once, played it for 2 hours, and hated it. Making arrangments to bring it in to trade for new skins and a couple new hoops for my classic Sonor Phonics on Tuesday. $60 bucks in heads invested, and getting at least $150 of new skins out of it. Not a bad trade off in my book.
