Default newb q re batters, resos

Hi, and thx for reading.
I am a nondrummer setting up a gift kit for my kid, prolly getting a little too into it, ha. Anyway, I took some advice and ordered new Tom heads for the set to replace the stock heads. I'm just wondering now if I needed to order reso heads to match the new batter heads. The new kit came with both, and maybe I should replace only the batter heads? Is there any good reason to replace the reso heads as well? For batters I ordered Remo coated ambassadors 10 and 12 and Remo coated emperors 14 and 16 for a Catalina Maple kit. I also ordered clear ambassadors 10 12 14 and 16 for the reso heads but maybe I'll return them (if I can) if they're totally unnecessary.

Anyway any feedback appreciated thx.

Resonant heads account for quite a lot of the tone of the drum, you don't HAVE to replace reso heads... but it will seriously improve the sound of the drum.

How old are the resos? They don't need to be changed nearly as often as a batter head.

This one will come down to your wallet. If you can afford the swap out, there's no doubt that you'll note an improvement in sound. But that said, if things are a bit tight and the resos aren't all that old, you can certainly get away with leaving them on for the time being.

I'll prolly use the clear ambassadors I ordered as resos and replace both heads on each of the four toms, just to have everything brand stinkin new and matched. I'll keep all the original Gretsch heads (also new) as spares. This stuff gets a little tricky and I appreciate the insight of you who know of what you speak, haha. Thx
