My local in Beaverton, OR had the PDP Ace for $99, and a DW Black Knurled steel snare for $249.

Typically you do have to stop in to make sure anything is available.

Anybody have feedback on that PDP Maple snare? Worth it?
How does it sound?

I ordered one from Best Buy online when it was $99 just before Christmas. Got it in 2 days. Also got new heads with it.

I changed the heads and tuned it up, but haven't spent much time with it. I practiced for quite a while last night with it, but had earplugs in, so I wasn't hearing everything well enough to judge it. It does seem cool, though. The highs seem to be muted a bit, which means it's a little darker.

That's what I'm saying, they were in the store, I played them. That DW is loud as hell...

Fricken heavy too. I saw one in the local BB last year. Was a little too steel/bright for my taste though. Maybe an HD Dry would've worked. I picked up the Collectors 6-10 maple 5.5x15 instead. Display model and clearance priced.

Yeah man - that sounds tight! Nice...

If I buy another snare this month, I will feel more like a collector not a drummer!
Speaking of collectors, I just stopped into the BB and am proud to announce that my only purchase was an Ambassador head for my DW Collectors Maple. I've been wanting to ditch that HD Dry head and get back to pure sound...

No idea about the PDP Woody, itself, but I bought the hoops for $20 and it really mellowed the attack and warmed up the tone on my Mapleworks.

I just don't understand Best Buy, why move into selling musical instruments, when they're having enough problems with just selling their 'normal' stock!
