Maybe I shouldn't complain for staying out to the wee hours last night and having to play at church today. Got home with the wife very early this morning from going out with friends and had to get up very early this morning to make it to rehearsal at 8 am.
So at rehearsal the very first thing I did was drop a stick while warming up. We play the first song and I drop another. I know this song, we've played it many times before, but I'm trying something "different" so I won't play it the same way as I've done before. It went well.
The third song into rehearsal and I'm finally "waking up". so to speak. The 4th song is a song we havn't played quite a while, so I'm trying to remember how I played it since I didn't make too many notes on the chord sheet. I wind up playing a 16th note pattern on the hats and am told it's the wrong beat. We begin again and it FINALLY dawns on me what the beat is. That and the bsss guitar player is laughing and playing air drums to give me a clue as to the correct beat. Okay, got it now. .
We finish rehearsal and everybody trots off to Sunday school classes. I come back for worship service and as I'm walking to the stage area a buddy of mine calls out my name to say hello. I turn to return his greeting when I trip on the first step on the stairs to the stage and fall. This was right before the service was to begin, so the room was 3/4 full and in full view of those present. Okay...so I'm picking myself up. My buddy is laughing his a$$ off. Several older folks saw this and are having a good chuckle also. I finally reach the drum booth and our lead guitar player laughing and telling me he's glad I made it safely without knocking anything over. So as I'm climbing onto the drum throne in my cramped drum booth, I trip again and almost fall into the cymbal stands. The really sad part is I only had 1 1/2 beers last night, so the alcohol wore off hours before.
Yep, it was one of those days this morning. :)
