Most drummers don't use drum dials. They aren't the magic panacea for drum tuning woes that some people thing they are. Drums are generally tuned by ear.

Well I did not realize that. I tune a guitar, my 6th string to a tuner and then tune the rest of the strings by ear.

I know someone who uses a Ludwig kit his parents purchased for him in 1970 or 1971. He took the bottom heads off the drums immediately after he received them. In fact, he does not know what happened to the rims or tension rods. The drums do not sound good with the bottom heads removed. Both shell toms have holes worn in them from his snare drum and the drums are basically in horrible shape. This guy has played with many top-name artists through the years and he still plays every week. He refuses to buy a new kit.
