Default Bass Drum Advice

I've got a 22" Tama kick drum and it sounds great. it has an Aquarian Superkick II on the batter and an Aquarian Regulator for the reso head. there is no porthole on the reso head and no kickpad on the batter. it sounds very good but it is too boomy for my liking. it would sound good for hard rock or for metal, but im looking for of a jazz sound. there is a medium sized pillow in it for muffling. any recommendations on heads or any tips i can use to make it sound better? i was thinking about putting a coated head on the batter side and putting a porthole on the front head. would this work?

Hi!
This is actually a pretty close situation to what i had a few days ago, except reverse! I have a super kick on my tama right now and a PORTED regulator, and i have it tuned for metal. For jazz, you usually like a big boomy, resonant sound, so im a little lost as to what sound your looking for here. are you looking for
Quick concise dead sound?
Big boom and resonant?
Big boom and no resonance?
Something else?
Describe the sound you want and i can probably help you get there
