Default Which cymbals (Church)

Hello everybody,

I'm Sander Bos from Holland and i'm 17 years old and i have a question :P
Next year we are going to launch a youth church...
I'm the drummer and i'm going to use the church's drumkit a Tama Artstar ES), but the cymbals are very very aweful and i don't have cymbals because i'm a 'elektric' drummer :P
(The ride is good btw)

So i thought i buy some (Crash) cymbals, but i have to pay it myself, and i'm a student, so i haven't got much money for stuff like this ;) My budget is around 180 euro.
I want 2 crash cymbals.

I saw Meinl classics cymbals (14''/16'') but are these cymbals the best for this budget?

Do you have any tips for me?

Greetz, Sander Bos

Go larger. I would recommend at least a 16" and an 18" rather than a 14" and a 16", unless you're playing a very small room (less than 75 people capacity).

Too bad that the budget is limited. If you are suppose to play hard (the drum sound like in stadium Hillsong concerts etc.) it's 16/18 all the way, but if you go lighter in playing the 16/14 is possible.

I played a 16/14 setup at home, not extremely hard, for a year, and the 14" broke :(, so i'll recommend the 16/18 one

Meinl classics are intermediate cymbals, but if you go higher into the Mb8s or even better, the Mb10s, you've got Semi-pro/pros for a good price! Then there is no reason to switch them out in the future either.

If you are the only one to play them, I would invest some more money myself, or if you are 2-3 guys, I would "go Dutch" to get as good cymbals as possible. Good luck with the church and God bless! (and merry christmas!)

Thank you for the answers! The problem is, i am the only drummer and in the future i will upgrade the drumkit too, i have an electric drumkit, so i am going to buy some cymbals only for the church... 250 euro is really much for me than... Maybe i should buy one cymbal? the church has a zildjian scimitar cymbal and a paiste alpha 16 inch crashes...should i buy one cymbal who sounds well with the paiste?

What do you think? I hope you understand my position and my situation...if i had a budget of 1000, i know what i would buy...:-P

Yes! I would go with a 18" Paiste Alpha crash. I think it suits your budget very well too! The new alphas are in brilliant finish btw if you didnt know. There are rock, metal, thin, and medium crashes in the series. Find out what suits you at a local music shop or at paiste.com
