Default Snare Rim Too Shallow

After a 15 year break I have gotten back into drumming (kids gone).
Purchased a PDP snare and compared to my old Ludwig snare I had in the 80's, the rim is so shallow as not to allow a decent rim shot. I have looked online for new rims but no one seems to list any rim heights. Am I missing something or is this just they way rims are now days?

Thanks for the help...

Will

The tighter the head is torqued the lower the hoop will be on the drum
Buy some wood hoops if you want increased height.
A different head can also raise the hoop sometimes.
