Default Mark Brzezicki

Mark Brzezicki is a very understated and underrated drummer with a brilliant approach to creative and innovative drumming.

Most of his impressive talent are best know for his superb grooves within his own band Big Country and Mark has also a profilic background as a session drummer having participated to a lot recording sessions by leading artists within the rock industry.

So I thought I'll put a few links to show some of his talent...

Absolutely! It's unfortunate that Mark doesn't receive more consideration for his talents. His playing on B.C.'s "Steeltown" album (along with their debut) is really incredible. I was pretty young when those albums came out but was really pleasantly surprised by how much cool drumming was "allowed" to be played on the radio!
Drumhead magazine did (another!) great interview with Mark for those interested in tracking that down.
Fortunately, their producer, Steve Lillywhite must have liked "active" drummers because he went on to work with Carter Beauford!

Mark was a very important drummer to me growing up. The first 4 Big Country records are a treasure trove, as well as Pete Townshend's "All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes". Simon Phillips plays half of that one too.

Cheers,
Todd

Haha... but yes, back in the day tracks like "In a Big Country", "Chance" and "Look Away" were played on the radio.

Mark's also on "Empty Glass" and "White City: A Novel" by Pete Townshend, and funny enough, also with Simon Phillips. (Pete's got good taste in drummers!!)

Did you know that Simon Phillips replaced Mark on the 1993 Big Country album "The Buffalo Skinners" while Mark was exploring the world as a session drummer. It's an interesting album as there's a couple of songs which were previously recorded by Mark on their previous 1991 album, the feel is so different, not just from a drumming point of view, the whole vibe of the song is different.

Decidely, these 2 drummers keep crossing each other. :-))

Here's another little beauty from Mr Brzezicki, from Roger Daltrey's song "Under A Raging Moon", a tribute song to Keith Moon, with a few drummers participating in this amazing track from 1985.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4VuUBI5gtw

Order of performance for the tribute solos:

Martin Chambers (The Pretenders)
Roger Taylor (Queen)
Cozy Powell
Stewart Copeland (The Police)
Zak Starkey (The Who, Oasis)
Carl Palmer (ELP, Asia)
Mark Brzezicki

The drums outro of the song is by Mark and Zak.

Just saw Mark B. with Big Country at the Altar Bar here. Really worked well in a smaller club space, the stuff from The Journey sounded fresh and really worked. Great stuff.

Wow that is a name from the past - from what I remember he was a respected drummer at the time. I am not sure since these days what he has been involved with.

I remember he played some nice beats on a Nik Kershaw song ....
