Default Autumn drum porn. High quality pictures.

Hope you like the autumn theme. I thought is was fitting to place drums that celebrate nature's beauty alongside nature's seasonal wonderfulness. A selection of solid steam bent, segmented, & stave snares, c/w a trio of stave/steambent toms. Enjoy!

Good one Sticksy! No, my rock riser is made up of 3 ton+ boulders & weighs in at close to 600 tons total. It also has it's own waterfall. Let's see if Neil can top that :) :) :)

I would like that first drum. Let's just call it international diplomacy, and you can write it off. I am the Mayor after all.

i really like the badge you use. i know its a small detail, but i am a big fan of small details that really make an instrument. almost everyone else put a big metal plate with their name on it, but you just have the words as the badge itself and i love that, simple but perfect.

Thanks LB, I think it has a simple elegance too. Of course, as with everything, it doesn't appeal to everyone.

For the sake of diplomacy, of course, we could, except for one tiny detail, IT'S MINE! Sorry Grunt, when trying all these beauties, it immediately spoke to me. It had a super bright woodiness that I didn't have in my other drums. I couldn't resist it's charms.

It's an evangkol solid steam bent shell with ash rerings & segmented evangkol scolloped hoops. This is the snare that Lutz really liked, in fact, he said it was the best snare drum he had ever played. Like all our choices, sometimes, you just find something that speaks to you. It's a super hard wood, that's pretty difficult to obtain in that quality. Tone wise, it's walnut on steroids, & that's weird, because evangkol is very hard, & walnut is pretty soft.

Fourth from the bottom has a very interesting hoop on it.
I have never seen hat before, did you design it yourself and what is it made of? diecast?

That natural finish kit looks amazing btw :)

Ohhh dear God, that's almost a sensory overload on drum porn.

I was all goo-goo over those wood hoops when I saw the single-flanged metal hoops with the barrel claws on there. Jiminy! That's a beautiful collection there Andy.

Any hope of asking you to add some descriptions by the pictures? Dimensions, material, construction ect.

*pestering questions to follow*

Does Mr. Guru (what is his name anyway?) make his own metal hoops? How about those lugs? How does the strength differ from a segmented wood hoop and a ply one?

For the second snare (Third picture from the top, the one with wood hoop) I can give you the only description that really matters:

It's mine!

Hahaha, yes Lutz. Don't worry, it's waiting for you mate! I've just ordered the Dunnett R class strainer to complete the drum.

Guys, thank you for all your lovely replies. Don't want Abe taking up smoking again :), & Bo, we'll make a see through snare when you post Monique in a see through top ;) ;)

Ok, specs:

picture 1 & 2 = My solid segmented walnut & ash with segmented ash hoops.
picture 3 = Lutz's solid steam bent evangkol with evangkol segmented hoops.
picture 4 = Solid steam bent birdseye maple with birdseye maple rerings. Stunning shell!
picture 5 = Solid steambent purpleheart/316L stainless steel hybrid with single flange chromed steel hoops.
picture 6 = Solid stave oak in driftwood finish.
picture 7 = My solid stave ebony x 1.5" thick rimshot monster.
picture 8 = Solid steambent walnut with birdseye maple rerings & symphonic strainer.
picture 9 = Solid steambent oak with oak rerings.
picture 10 = Solid steambent sepele without rerings. Fitted with chromed steel single flange hoops & barrel claws. Full roundover bearing edges for that vintage live sound.
picture 11 = Solid steambent walnut tom. Possibly the nicest AA grade matched board I've seen.
picture 12 = Tom as above + solid steambent ash tom & solid stave oak tom in driftwood finish.
picture 13 = Some stuff in my upstairs garage room, soon to be our Guru drum testing facility.

Phew! BTW, snares & kits featured are all ex demo from the London drum show. Very light use, if any, so all for sale at a significant discount. Some have been played by Lutz, Duncan, & Ben though. You can work out for yourself if that's a good thing or not, lol! Anyhow, if something interests you, shoot me a PM.

Cheers all, Andy.

I'm speechless. Those are mind-bogglingly beautiful drums. And judging by the testimonials, you guys really have a lineup of amazing-sounding drums. I'm really happy for you. Seeing a small business rise up out of a passion for what they do and compete with the big boys is my favorite kind of success story.

I've been looking for a nice wood snare for my bop gigs. I may end up opening my well-worn (albeit very lightweight) wallet at some point...

Thanks man. Although Dean has been building drums for a long time, I've only recently formalised my arrangement with Dean, so we're effectively at the start of what I know will be a long hard journey. We're determined to do it right though. Thanks for your kind support.

Here's some hasty sound files of the single flange hoop sepele steambent snare for Scorch Whammin. Sorry about the crappy playing, but you get the idea. Recorded on a Q3 at low, medium, & high tunings. Recorder's probably a bit close to the drum. This drum has full roundover bearing edges to accentuate the vintage vibe of the single flange hoops & mahogany shell.

Cheers Scorch, of course, sharpening the bearing edges on this drum would give it a more modern sound, & that would bring it up to the expectations of most players wanting a main snare, but that would be missing the point.

Thanks man, you'd be most welcome anytime. Over the next few months we'll have a modest demo & test facility set up for artists to try & compare wood species, constructions, etc.

So the last picture was your favourite? Or perhaps you weren't logged on, so it's the first one ;) Joking, of course. I'm glad you liked them. These are the work of Dean Price.

Frankly stunning drums.

If I could get a snare, with those hoops, those lugs and a 2mm brass shell I would mess my troosers.

Beautiful drums as usual KIS. I really love the wood finishes and the hoops. Although to be honest I'm not a fan of the lugs and throw-off. Most of those lug designs are a bit too bulky than I would like (save for the ones in the 5th pic), as is the strainer in the 6th and 7th pic. The throw offs in the other pics look great though. I'm sure Guru offers custom hardware anyway.

Thanks unpronounceable :) A very thick solid stave or segmented maple drum offers a similar set of overtones to a brass shell, but with more body. Wood hoops on a brass shell work well for cross stick sound, but don't offer a lot of benefit for general playing. on a stave shell however---------------- :)

Hahaha, yes, that's why I used porn in the title. Reminds you to clear the cache before the wife smells another drum purchase;) Good for dropping Christmas present hints though. Put your favourite up as your desktop picture!

Thanks Dare. Those chunky tube lugs are extremely popular, much to our surprise actually. We had the pattern laid down for those thinking they would be a funky take on the standard tube lug, but didn't expect them to outsell the traditional lug 2-1!! As everything, it's a personal preference thing. I like them on shallow drums!

The Dunnett R class strainer is quite bulky when extended. It swivels through 180 degrees, so when it's snug to either side, it's profile is quite low. I do get your point though, & we're looking into a bespoke Guru design. Thanks for chiming in :)

These detailed pictures of the vintage style Sepele solid steambent by request from Scott (Scorch Whammin). A slender shell without rerings (a difficult shell to build). Full roundover bearing edges, single flange chromed steel hoops. Hope you enjoy the pictures Scott!

There's a couple there I'd love to play. Snare numbers 1 and 8 (the blonde!!).......though there's a real appeal for #5 and #7 too. When I get some coin I'm ordering #1 with round wooden hoops (the shape of tension screw holes is the only thing I don't love about that snare) and #8 with die casts though Andy. We'll talk about modifications when I'm cashed up!! :-)

Speaking of the hoops, what determines what hoop goes on what drum? Is it purely asthetic or is there more to matching the hoop to the shell material?
