I am thinking of purchasing this kit http://www.gear4music.com/Drums-and-...stal-Clear/FQB It is an acrylic kit, for under £600 brand new, and it is seriously tempting me. I already have my lovely Gretsch kit with Paistes that never leaves the house, ever, and I am considering buying this as a gigging kit. I have played acrylic kits before and love the sound, but I would like to hear your opinions on this before I part with my hard earned cash. I eagerly await your internet scribblings :) |

Never heard of WHD drums before ... but they "probably" buy pre-manufactured shells, and/or the whole drum kit, and re-badge it/mount their own hardware. I had and played Ludwig Vistalite (clear) drums for 25 years ... wonderful stage drums ... not my "first choice" for studio work ... but live, they kick @$$, visually and sonically. As far as scratches ... not that big a deal. After 25 years with mine, I sold them for more than I paid for them. A few marks that a drum owner "might stress over" ... to the guy 20 feet away, in the audience, won't even be seen ...

@ tamadrm : I am doing my best to find out who actually makes the shells but nothing as yet. And we are all entitled to our opinions, and thanks for sharing yours :)
@ harryconway : Nor have I! The only thing I can find to do with WHD (which stands for White Horse Drums, apparently) is this http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/d...-190472/review . It got very good reviews, and I assume this kit would be to the same level build quality wise. |

So ... White Horse drums ... probably out of China ... only 8 lugs on the kick ... I'm a 10 lug guy, but for the price ... they gotta cut a few corners ... the hardware will probably wear out after a few years ... replace the stands with Yamaha (or your favorite brand) stuff as they fail ... and you'll probably have this kit a good long time.

A brand new Acrylic kit for 700.00 Euros ? Isn't that like $1,400 (US) ? With or without exchange rate, that is great price for 5 Pce. Acrylic kit...I have Zickos (old) and looking to add on 1 or 2 drums and see where 18x22 kick is like $2,000...Yikes...I'd say great deal for the WHD Acrylic...I too saw a review on WHD kit in last couple years and it was a maple kit, I believe, and kit got great review as kit was like $500 including hardware with excellent manufacturing...Hmmm...Wonder if I can find thar\t review..?...In any case, Acrylic kit for rock is perfect...I'd score Acrylic, at that price, If chief let me...So, guess that ballon just burst...Enjoy whatever you decide...
