Default "2040's Sortie" by Alan Abel

I just want to set the record straight on the individual snare drum VFW International Contests. I placed first in the 1946 contest in Boston at Soldiers Field. In 1947 I also placed first in the VFW Contest in Cleveland, Ohio. Both times, I played my solo, "2040's Sortie" (published by Ludwig Music Company). This difficult solo has sold thousands of copies for the past 60 years and has enabled many rudimental drummers to win contests and gain entry into college. My prior teachers were Ned Albright, Charlie Wilcoxon and Allan Simpson, Jr. They were all instrumental in providing me with the technical skill necessary to both compose and perform this solo and others.

I believe the "2040's Sortie" thread is a hoax. Check out this video;

http://youtu.be/RP8umHvoKsE.

You can also reference "Abel Raises Cain", the documentary on Hulu. The hoaxer is very good at what he does. The documentary has it's funny moments, and I have to say I enjoyed watching a good part of it.

I'm a little confused myself if there isn't two gentleman by this same name. I know that one is a master percussionist who had a long career with the Philadelphia Orchestra. His line of triangles were coveted by my fellow percussion students in the early 80's.

Wikipedia has a man by the same name who is a hoaxer and entertainer.

At any rate, this man's chops are anything but a hoax.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsKXp...eature=related

The guy has great chops, I agree. The "2040's Sortie" solo is real, and available. I still believe this is the work of the hoaxer.
