Default Trouble setting up the bass pedal: beginner here

Hi! I'm completely new to the drumming world... I only just got my drum kit a day ago and everything else works fine except for the pedal.. I can't think of how to set it up. There is a thin silver rod that fits into a hole in the middle of the bottom of the black frame of the pedal but there is nothing to hold it there. There is a hoop clamp... (I think its called that) but it doesn't fit into the hole. I have no idea what to do. I have attached two pictures. If someone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.

I'm not familiar with that brand of pedal. I see the hole that you speak of in the pics.
That part underneath the footboard has to be secured to the pedal base in some manor in order for the pedal to work.
I imagine that there should be a threaded hole in the pedal base for that strut to attach with a screw.
What brand and model pedal is it?
I kind of like old drums:)

I had an older make of pedal that operated on the same principle. Fit the peg on the underside of the metal rail into the hole in the frame. Then slide the pedal onto the bass drum hoop and tighten down the wingbolt on the toe clamp. As it tightens down it holds the rail in place so that the peg stays in the hole.

Not a fantastic design, and unless this pedal happens to feel like liquid gold under your foot, I would recommend upgrading not too far in the future.
