I tried the emperor X adn here is my .02 on it
The emperor X has lots of sustain that needs to be muffled the overtones are thick - but once you put a remo ring on what you get is a thick adn beefy CRACK! I think the sheer mass of the double 10mil +5mil dot really activates the snares enhancing that snare wire sound C-RACK! You also get a rather stiff feel wich makes the stick bounce really good with this head and combined with the enhanced snare response you actually get a quite sensitive response for ghost notes etc.... You should definately give this head a try but for me - I always had to have the ring on it to get rid of the HONKY sounding overtones but then it was really dry beefy crack and I finally decided I like a little bit of higher harmnioic overtones so went back to an Evans ST dry which I highly recomend. |
