Default bass drum to quiet

ive been using the evans emad bass skin for years and while i do love it, im wondering if someone could recommend a skin that has a controled sound like the emad but but much louder. i need a bit more volume for unmiced situations.

Well all I can say is PS3 with nothing in the bass drum. I love the sound of my bass drums. Big without sounding boomy. When I bought my acoustic set last year after playing electronic drums for the last 20 I could not get over how good the bass drums sounded with the PS3 heads, and no other muffling.

I'm going to try out Aquarian Superkick II, heard lots of good things. Maybe something to look into?

I use and 20" coated emad 2 right now as well, still love the head but I want to try something more controlled as you say and less boomy. My old kit has a 22" clear emad on it and it's thunderous! hahaha!

to be honest, I don't think that any bass drum head can give much more volume.

but if you are a ligth hitter you may benefit from a single ply like PS3 because isn't too muffled and because is only one ply is much easier to move

I would highly recommend the EQ3. I have one and I really really like it. Nice and loud, punchy, controlled, and warm all at the same time.
