Default Port Hole Positioning

The only reason im asking this question is to try and get a little smarter.

How does the position of the port hole on the Bass effect the sound. Ive seen drummers (Pro and semi-pro) have one in the center, 1 toward the side edge, 1 toward the top, and 2 in the bottem. I even have an old Pearl head, which makes a great wall hanging, with a very large hole thats just under center.

What does it do to the sound?

Thanks

Default Re: Port Hole Positioning

If you cut the port hole in the center of the head it becomes non resonant. Best to cut the port hole 1-2" in from edge utilizing a 4-5" diameter.
