IMHO, you don't have to recreate the solo exactly as Kurpa played it (he probably never played it the same twice) but get the feel right. Just listen and emulate. BTW, one of my favorite tunes for a drummer.

I love it! Jeff Hamilton took one of the most clichéd solos of all time and turned it back into gold!

BTW, I don't mean Gene Krupa's/Benny Goodman's version, but the hundreds of drummers who copy it (or soundtracks or commercials that do just enough of a variation so that they don't have to pay royalties).

I found one. It's the transcription of the Krupa's Sing Sing Sing solo from Benny Goodman's Live at Carnegie Hall album. It is in Inside the Big Band Drum Chart by Steve Fidyk. The book also has transcriptions of Buddy Rich's West Side Story, Louis Bellson's Skin Deep, and others.

"The Gene Krupa Drum Method" book has the chart. I'd just watch the video on Drummerworld; you can see what he's doing. It's pretty easy, except for those single stroke triplets at the end of it. Dig Gene's charisma.
