If your primary objective is a great tone, then stave is an informed choice. I've compared just about every construction of shell there is, & stave offers the best combination of features IMO. There is no "better" when comparing shell types, but there are certainly big differences. As long as your maker does a good job, you'll have a wonderful kit for life.

Got a link?

I've been hangin' for a Brady jarrah stave for ages now.....just haven't been hangin' on the price (why should I pay more for a drum made in my own bloody country than what the Yanks do for a drum that is imported to their shores??). If they make a jarrah stave snare...and all on my back doorstep, then I'm all ears (and eyes).

Sorry Brady, but if this lead is solid, you'll lose out here. No doubt about it. ;-)

Really nice looking shells there. The bearing edge finish looks especially good.

Good for you for buying from a small local business! My drums come from an Australian custom maker.

I have played stave sets. They have only a tiny amount of glue and no cross-lamination, so there is a tremendous woody drum sound with lots of character.

Here is a post on the forum of a video of a stave kit we built. This will give you a good idea of the tone quality of a stave kit. A Jarrah stave kit will have a much brighter sound though, b/c the wood is much harder than this American Walnut. Enjoy, and buy that kit for sure!
