Default Heads?

Hey,
I'm looking for heads with a short decay, and a punchy, deep sound. I've decided on either the Remo Clear Pinstripes, Remo Ebony Pinstripes, or Evans Hydraulic Glass. Also, what would be the best resonant head to use?

You've pretty much described the Remo Ebony Pinstripes there - a short, thick, low sound.
Try a standard Ambassador resonant, or something a bit thicker if you really want to kill any sustain.

Have a look here - http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=77456 - we've been talking about them.

You could pretty much get that from any head with proper tuning. Do you know how to tune drum to get this sound? Maybe that's what you should be asking, maybe not. I don't know enough about your tuning ability to say.
If you have the tuning part perfectly down pat then disregard the above. But again if your asking for which head will give you a short decay then I am compelled to believe that you do not know how to tune well, just a hunch. Every head can provide short decay if you tune top and bottom the correct way.

I'm about to try some of the Evans Onyx heads (when I can afford to). The drum guy at my local shop thinks these might be just what I'm looking for: lots of low-end, punchy attack, not much sustain. Check it out.

Yup, I was gonna say Evans EC2's but sounds like youre more of a Remo guy.

The Pinstripes should do the trick. I played them for years and just switched to Evans, just for a change really but theyre very similar heads IMO.
