Default Yamaha Oak- Review- Dan's review's part 1

Hey Everyone- Dan here

I'm going to start a drum review series- I have ben spending a lot of time just tuning and playing drums at guitar center.

Anyway if any of you have suggestions please leave a comment, and if you want to to review something in particular go ahed and tell me.

So let's get to it--

Yamaha Oak-

--The Look--
The drum's look great, seeing as oak is one of the better looking woods, I would suggest the clear lacquer finish. Over all I think there one of the better looking yamaha drums I have seen.

Look= 8 out of 10

--The hardware--
Its yamaha hardware, stiff and strong. What do you expect? Nothing special, but it will last a long time.

hardware= 8.5 out of 10

--The sound--
Now we get to the good stuff, when I first got on the drum set I started low with the bass drum. Right off the bat I liked the bass drum, it's very meaty and quite deep. I don't think the bass drum would sound good with a pillow though, but overall it was easy to tune and it had a lot of room for adjustment.

Now the 16in floor tom is where this drum set shines. It's just deep, reverberative and plain great, no need to say more! The 2 rack toms are pretty good, but the 10in tom was a bit dead, and was a bit difficult to tune, I think it would sound better with coated heads.

But not to the snare. And boy did it drive me crazy, and not in a good way! With the snares off it was fine, but when I put them on! Geezzz it sounded like a 50$ snare, it had a strange, dark crack and bad reverberation.

Pro's: The set looks great- The bass and floor tom are nice and deep- The rack toms are good- And the hardware will last a long time.

Con's: The Snare is not up to par with the rest of his set- The 10in tom is hard to tune-

----Over all----
Its a great set, just I would suggest getting a different snare. And I think the toms sound better with coated heads.
Taking this all in to account it's a great set, it one of the best set's in its price range so check it out if you like deep wood's!

Overall= 7 out of 10

final thoughts: For 2,500$ it's a great set, but I cant stress enough get a different snare..... The Stage custom snares fit very well in this kit.

Sonor S-Classix, Sonor Delites, Sonor SQ2, Yamaha Custom Absolutes (Maple/Birch/Beech)...

I'm planning to win the lottery you see ;-)

Also - I doubt you'll be able to find any over in the US but I'm curious what the new Premier kits are like compared to the old kits (like the Genista vs old Genista).
