PErsonally, I use the Mapex Black Panthers, I used them when I used Tama and I use them now I'm on Mapex... Excellent snares for any music.

You can get used Acrolites for as little as $60. $100 is an average price. They sound great and work for just about anything. I don't know of anything in the same price range that sounds as good.

Well, if cheap means under $300, those Tama Metalworks snares are pretty nice. Good pop and fatness, and everything in between. I think I saw a 5x14 for $219 at the local Sam Ash. In fact, it was my choice but then I went for the Stewart Copeland instead (heavy chrome plated brass, about $340).
But if you're trying to stay around the $100 mark, go for the Acrolite - you can't go wrong with those, either. |

My local music store recently had a stock of about 4 used Acrolites for about $70. I should have picked one of them up. Acros are VERY common in the used market because they are the educational snare of choice for most schools. They have since become a cornerstone snare in the market for all genres. I'd say go for an Acrolite and find one used.
Oh and, welcome aboard! Last edited by DSCRAPRE; 03-11-2011 at 09:23 PM. Reason: Welcoming |

The Tama Metalworks. Get either the 14 x 6.5 or 13 x 6.5 though cos you'll need the depth for it to cut. I had the 13 x 4 and it was too quiet on gravity blasts.

Don't think you can beat this for brand new..nickleworks throw-off, cast hoops all for under $140..there is a cast one for 345 that is another great deal..
