Default Hardware Rust

So my hardware is starting to rust and I have messed up two tension rods trying to tune them. What's the best way to prevent this from happening? Will WD-40 or oil make them slip out of tune?
Please tell me I don't have to replace them all...

Default Re: Hardware Rust

I have an entry-level Pulse kit that's almost 3 years old now, and the snare lugs on mine had the same problem. Two of the lugs were getting rusty and I had a problem with my snare tuning because I'd have to tighten those two about 20 times tighter than the other 4. I WD-40'd them and they worked fine. I didn't do this, but you may want to wipe the lugs off a bit after you spray them so that they're not as slippery as they were right after you sprayed them. Even without that, I didn't see any problems with either screwing them back in or with the snare going out of tune. Hope that helps! :)
