Default Removing logo, head question

Good morning.

I got a set of Sonor Phil Rudd drums. It has a big ass logo on the bass drum. I am replacing the heads with Remo Pinstripes and the bass with an Aquarian Superkick II.

1. Is there a way to remove the ACDC logo and signature from the front head?
2. Should I cut a hole in the front?

Thoughts/suggestions?

On a clear or smooth white remo head, I managed to get the Remo logos off with nail polish remover. It contains a bit of acetone which is like a paint thinner. Works great. The head has to be of the smooth variety though. Coated heads it will just smear the ink and make a mess.

I used some acetone on a clean white rag and dabbed until the logo was gone on a 26" coated Remo Ambassador head and it came out very clean.

Do not cut a hole in your bass drum reso head. You will lose more than you will gain.

Instead, install your heads with a 3-4 inch wide felt strip on each side of your bass drum 3-5 inches from the bottom of the drum. Play around with the tuning. Mke reso head three notes higher than the batter head.

Learn to control the air that moves inside the drum with your technique.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

I'd buy a new front head, and sell the AC/DC Signature head. I wouldn't ruin it's value by using acetone on it to get the ink off.
If you're playing at home and just don't like it, I'd live with it until you can buy a new head.
It WILL be collectible to someone, and it'd probably fetch more than what a new head would cost.

If you aren't playing live, I'd say there's no reason to cut a hole in the front head, but that's me. If you DO cut a hole, I wouldn't go bigger than a 4" with a HOLZ.

The felt strips are fine, but if you are using an Aquarian pre-muffed head, you won't need the felt strips.

Good luck.

I think I am going to take it off, put it in the box, and get a new head....I have plenty of time, so I'm not in a hurry. SO here is the next dumbass question...where do I get a head that says Sonor on it, or do I just buy one and then get a sticker?

I saw on eBay some guy selling vintage Sonor stickers. That would be cool. Get a new smooth white head (or black), and get the Sonor logo from the '60s. That'd be like Jack DeJohnette sitting in for Phil Rudd!
