Default Overhead condenser suggestions for less than $300?

Hey guys,

I'm buying some mics for my 5 piece drum kit obviously, and I've already pretty much narrowed it down to these:

2 x Sennheiser E604 (rack toms)
1 x Shure beta 52 (kick)
1 x Shure SM57 (snare)
1 x Sennheiser E602 (floor tom)

After all my research those are the choices I've pretty much narrowed it down to, but I'm having trouble selecting two overhead mics. I'm trying my best to stay under $250. I've been looking at the Shure PG81 and MXL 604s (leaning toward the 604s).

Any comments on any of these? :)

PG81s...you can get three of them (2x overheads and another on your hi hats). I have this setup (and some MXLs...eh)...prefer the PG81s.

Awesome thanks a lot for your opinion. I have the same interface as yourself and a yamaha kit as well, so hopefully I can get it all to shine nicely in recordings.

I have the M-AUDIO Pulsar II Matched pair which are $299.99 shipped from Musician's Friend. They're my first condensers, but I like them enough that I feel confident recommending them. Of course, I don't know how they compare to anything else. ;)

Anyway, I even posted a review when I got them. I'm the first reviewer.

I could probably post some examples (recorded almost 3 years ago), but the thought of posting such things feels similar to the thought of posting naked pics of myself. heh. So if I posted examples, then I would have to beg you to judge the audio quality, not the playing.

Actually, I decided to post one of my little recordings. Here's a post where I posted the recording in:

http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...98&postcount=7

Or, here's the link to the recording:

http://home.comcast.net/%7Etwocables/Test1.wma

But try to read that post as it should answer every question you could come up with about the recording.
