Default DISTINGUISH between FAKE and REAL sticks!

Hey guys, I ordered a whole bunch of sticks off ebay(vic firth 5As) and I was wondering what are symptoms that will let me know whether the stick is fake?
Overall in appearance they look 100% genuine.

I guess the distinguishing factor would be in profile/shape of the stick. In my mind it'd be hard to exactly replicate how the sticks are laved so comparing it to a genuine example would be able to give that away, although a keen eye might be needed.

Personally I've never heard of any instances of fake sticks being manufactured but I guess as with anything else it could happen.

Hope they are genuine and let us know what you find,

Kev

What makes you think they are fake?

Unless the logo is written with a Sharpie, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If you got them cheap, they may be "seconds", in other words rejects. Which doesn't mean they are useless, just that they didn't pass every test.
Are the logos on them?

I seem to remember being told by VF that they catch their seconds before labelling, allowing them to but a different brand on (i.e. NOVA). Also, it tends to be that most of the defects in NOVA sticks are cosmetic more than physical.

Vic Firth does not sell seconds under their brand, If they were seconds they would have a name like Nova or such.

The time, effort, and cost of making something that is close enough looking to a Vic Firth 5A without being a drumstick manufacturer is so great that I can't see anyone casually trying to counterfeit sticks. And any store or chain (such as GC) that might try to pass off bad wood by silkscreening it with a brand name label would be found out pretty quickly. It would be "retail suicide". So rest easy.

A little off topic, but do you all know that vic firth also turns a beautiful pepper grinder on his lathe?
Every drummer should have one in his kitchen.

If they break quickly I'd say they are fakes. I got cheap sticks like 4 bucks a pair. Never buying them again.
