Default A first, broken BD reso?

So I'm rehearsing at my place with my rock band, just playing normally, and my ported bass drum reso hed just splits. I didn't see it because I'm on the other side obviously but the split either started from the port or started somewhere else and traveled to the port... I gotta say, this never happened to me before. Is this an uncommon occurance?

I'm assuming you don't have a mic in there at rehearsal - which is how I've torn a reso, on a thin carpet that didn't keep the kick from inching away. Mic or stand nicked the port, I imagine a couple good hits and it's all over.

Stock reso on my 18", I was upset.

Maybe your got nicked before and finally "gave"? Would be really odd to spontaneously combust like that.

???

Never happened to me, but reso heads do wear, especially the kick drum reso. It's just the fact that we tend not to want them to sustain, means we don't notice so much. Also, they're really expensive to replace if they carry a logo.

And quite a b*tch if the company is no longer in business.
